"Taiko is Japanese for “drum.” The word has come to refer to both the art form of Japanese drumming as well as the drums themselves. Taiko drums have been used in temple ceremonies, in battle, and as instruments for the Japanese Imperial court. Wood, bamboo, cowhide, and metal – these materials, used in the construction of traditional Japanese instruments, affirm the connection of the player to the natural world.Taiko in Japan today is a unique blend of tradition, spanning thousands of years of history, and modern creative expression combining elements of jazz, martial arts, dance, and spirituality."

"We are a Boston, Massachusetts-based ensemble specializing in Japanese Taiko drumming, known as Shindaiko. The Japanese character "Shin" in our name signifies "progressing" or "pushing ahead." Our goal is to consistently advance our musical vision, venture into uncharted territory with fresh ideas and concepts, and seamlessly blend the commanding Taiko sounds with various musical influences, crafting a unique and unmistakable melody of our own." ---- ShinDaiko
